The Real Data :

Fly-tipping is an unfortunate blight on our rural communities all too often. Rouge Waste collectors run rampant online, offering attractive prices and praying on customers who don’t know any better.

The UK authorities dealt with a staggering 1.08 million incidents last year alone. 60% of those Fly-Tips (653,000) were household waste. Unsurprisingly, the most common volume of waste fly-tipped was a small van load; this accounted for 31% of all incidents. Quickly followed by a small car load.

Fly-tipping is a very real threat to our community. Recently, a fly-tipping incident took place in Dorchester; it’s not just a statistic. It will and does happen in your community. Therefore, it is vital we all do our best to learn how to do our bit to ensure our waste is dealt with professionally.

They commit the crime, You pay the fine.

The unfortunate reality of waste removal scams, is it’s often the customer who suffers the consequences… If a scam waste removal company fly-tips waste from your residence, you can be held liable. In the eyes of the law, it’s down to you, the customer, to provide proof that you used a waste removal service, and did not fly tip the waste yourself. An inability to produce a proof of service can result in a hefty fine of up to £600 and a criminal record!

Here is What to look out for.

So it goes without saying it’s important you use a registered and legal waste removal service. But how are you to know who is being truthful?

Online Presence

One important thing to check, are they contacting you from a business page or a personal page? Often scammers won’t have a business page and will contact you directly from a personal FB page. Very often, waste removal scammers don’t have much of an online presence. They often have very new profiles, lacking any detail such as profile photos.
A Reputable business will want everyone to be able to contact and find them as easily as possible, therefore, will have a filled out, longstanding business page.

Reviews

Do they have any reviews or customers testimonies? This is a great way to gain insight on the service this company provides by seeing what past customers have experienced. If the company doesn’t have any reviews, this could be a red flag.

Receipts / Proof of Service

One of the easiest red flags to spot is if the business will only take cash and don’t provide any proof of the transaction. Every registered waste carrier will also need to provide you with a waste transfer notice. This will need to be read and signed by both parties to ensure the waste is legally taken.

Be sure to keep a close eye out for red flags when you are using a waste removal service. If the price is too good to be true, that’s because it is. Using a well established business is the best way to have waste removed. Most importantly, if you’re not sure, ask! A genuine and legal waste carrier will be able to prove they are operating legally very easily.
